ONDEM SYRUP contains Ondansetron which belongs to a group of medicines called Anti-emetics. ONDEM SYRUP is used to prevent nausea and vomiting in children caused by cancer chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery.
Before giving ONDEM SYRUP, to your child, inform your doctor if your child have or had severe constipation, heart problems, liver, kidney problems, imbalance with the levels of salts in your blood, (potassium, sodium, and magnesium), or have been scheduled for any surgery. During the therapy, your doctor would regularly monitor your child’s health to avoid the risk of side effects.
Your doctor will prescribe the right dose and duration depends on the child’s age, body weight and health condition, so stick to the dose, time, and duration prescribed by the doctor. Minor and temporary side effects may be experienced after the intake of this medicine. These includes headache, flushing and constipation.
Generally, these effects subside once the child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, in case of prolonged or bothersome events, consult your doctor immediately without any delay. Inform your doctor about your child’s complete medical history including any previous episodes of allergies.
ONDEM SYRUP is a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist (specific chemical receptor), and it works by blocking the action of serotonin, a natural substance that may cause nausea and vomiting.
Always give this ONDEM SYRUP to your child as instructed by your doctor. Shake well before use. It is for pediatric use. Your doctor will prescribe the right dose depends on your child’s age body weight and disease condition.
Stop giving ONDEM SYRUP and contact your doctor immediately if your child experience any of the following side effects:
Headache:
Give plenty of water and apply a wet or cold cloth on child’s forehead. Apply pain balm to head to ease off the pain. If there is no improvement in the symptom, contact your doctor.
Constipation:
Give more fiber-rich foods like green leafy vegetables and fruits. Give lots of water. If there is no improvement in the symptom, contact your doctor.
Do not allow your child drive or play outdoors, as ONDEM SYRUP may cause dizziness or blurry vision. Consult your doctor before giving ONDEM SYRUP.
ONDEM SYRUP should be used with caution if the child has kidney disease. Consult your doctor before giving ONDEM SYRUP.
ONDEM SYRUP should be used with caution if the child has liver disease. Consult your doctor before giving ONDEM SYRUP.
Do not use ONDEM SYRUP if your child is allergic (hypersensitive) to Ondansetron or any other ingredients of this medicine.
ONDEM SYRUP should be used with caution if your child has any heart disease. If needed, dose will be adjusted accordingly. Consult your doctor for advice.

A: ONDEM SYRUP is unlikely to cause harm if you give an extra dose by mistake. However, you must tell your child’s doctor immediately.
A: ONDEM SYRUP may interact with other medicines. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting ONDEM SYRUP. Check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
A: Your doctor might advise you on how long your child should continue to take ONDEM SYRUP. You will need to consult your doctor from time to time to review the child’s treatment and assess the symptoms.
A: The most common side effects include ONDEM SYRUP are headache, flushing (feeling of warmth) or constipation. Consult your doctor if any of the above side effects persist for a long duration.
A: ONDEM SYRUP can be given twice daily or three times daily if it is prescribed by your doctor. Consult your doctor for advice.
