Traveler’s Diarrhea is a disorder of digestive system which mostly leads to uncontrolled bowel movements and cramps in the abdomen often caused due to contaminated food or water. 

Contaminated Food Can Lead To Traveler’s Diarrhea

The most common signs of this condition include, sudden tummy upset resulting in diarrhea, fever, vomiting and nausea, bloated stomach discomfort due to acidity, gas, cramps and loss of appetite. Few people may suffer from moderate to severe dehydration. It’s not a serious condition but however, it can make you feel uncomfortable.  

Treatment: 

The problem gets better with time; however, if the symptoms persist for more than two days, consult a doctor. Traveler’s diarrhea can also have triggered due to stress, change in diet or environmental conditions.

Infectious bacteria or virus enter the stomach through food; overpower the body defense mechanism, triggering traveler’s diarrhea.

International travelers often face this health issue, but it can be more prevalent among young, adventurous tourists, those with weak immune system, diabetics and suffering from inflammatory bowel diseases. 

Prevention: 

Traveler’s diarrhea can easily be prevented by avoiding street food, unpasteurized milk intake, avoiding under cooked meals, especially meat and fish. Maintaining proper hygiene, use of hand sanitizers, drinking clean water is recommended.
